Big in Texas comes with its challenges, and a wide-open space isn't always inviting when it's an uphill climb.
Serious engineering to manage rainwater runoff and Pavestone hardscapes that are sure to flex if needed. Then a lot of steel & gunite, plus an integrated retaining wall with a weeping wall, tied into a generous beam wall to make this Texas-sized Dream last just this side of eternity.
A rock grotto fit for a Marine! This beauty, placed on some demanding terrain in Fort Worth. But because of a team with vision, the challenge was no match for this big Dream. The hero of this story is the Steele family and their desire to do more with their backyard then hide from the Texas heat and watch the grass grow. Mike's service took a toll on his body, and he's a good family man, so a swimming pool for private therapy enjoyed on his terms & schedule is the order of the day. And, he has a beautiful attraction for his family that's good for the soul. Eight tons of solid natural stone form a custom rock grotto and weeping wall that keeps the sun at bay from the strong western exposure.
This classic Texas freeform, built into a hillside with natural stone and timeless colors, is everything we love about design in one snapshot. The weeping wall pulls double duty as a retaining wall. Proof the eight-ton grotto capped with a perfectly balanced capstone as the water cascades and flows evenly across its opening.
